Indian equity benchmarks closed Thursday’s trade on a flat note, with a negative bias. The Nifty 50 ended the day 3 points or 0.01% lower at 25,816, while the BSE Sensex dropped 78 points or 0.09% to end at 84,482.

Similarly, the Nifty Bank settled 14 points or 0.02% lower at 58,913, in line with benchmarks. However, the mid-cap stocks closed the trade in the green. The BSE Midcap finished 22 points or 0.05% higher at 45,968.49. However, the BSE Smallcap finished 141 points or 0.28% lower at 50,172.

Indices in intraday trade

The indices closed the trade on a lower note. During the session, out of 3,209 trading stocks, 1,273 advanced, while 1,827 declined, and 109 remained unchanged. Today, 49 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high. Meanwhile, 228 stocks touched a new 52-week low. 

Top gainers 

InterGlobe Aviation was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Thursday’s session, closing 2.90% higher. It was followed by Tata Consultancy, Max Healthcare Institute, Tech Mahindra, and Infosys. 

Top losers

Sun Pharma’s shares were the biggest losers in today’s trade, falling 2.6%. It was followed by Tata Steel, Power Grid Corp, Asian Paints, and Tata Consumer Products were the only losers. 

Top sectors in Thursday’s trade

The capital markets sector’s stocks rose the most in Thursday’s trade, rising 3.5% in the market capitalisation. Further, transport stocks were followed by the metals-nonferrous sector stocks, which were further followed by the sugar sector stocks. However, the electric equipment sector stocks fell the most.
