CLOSING BELL
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty ended in red on Friday on account of selling in IT, auto, telecom and realty stocks amid mixed global cues. Investors also turned cautious ahead of the announcement of the next RBI governor. Sensex closed 46.44 points down at 28,077, while Nifty index settled 6.35 points down at 8,666.90. In the 50-share index, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, Hindalco, Aurobindo Pharma and Ambuja Cement gained between 1.44 per cent and 4.15 per cent. On the other hand, Eicher Motors, Bharti Infratel, TCS, Coal India and Lupin settled down between 1.15 per cent and 1.90 per cent.
Indian Hotels jumped over 2 per cent on Friday on reports that it is planning to merge Taj GVK Hotel & Resorts with itself as the GVK Reddy family wishes to exit the business. Shares of Taj GVK locked in at upper circuit of 20 per cent at Rs 147.60.

Among the sectoral indices on BSE, Metal index gained the most — 1.1 per cent, followed by Consumer Durables (up 1 per cent), Oil & Gas (up 0.68 per cent) and Bankex (up 0.45 per cent). On the other hand, Realty index, Telecom index and TECk index slipped by 0.70 per cent, 0.52 per cent and 0.51 per cent, respectively.
Asian peer Hang Seng closed 0.37 per cent lower at Rs 22937, while Shanghai and Nikkei settled higher by 0.13 per cent and 0.36 per cent, respectively.
2.51 pm: Surya Roshni shares were trading over 2 per cent higher after the company announced that it has received an order worth Rs 27.60 crore through competitive e-bidding. The order is for design, manufacture, supply of LED Tube Lights and other related works from Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
1.38 pm: The BSE Midcap index was trading 0.30 per cent up at 13,007.23. Midcap stocks such as Petronet, Tata Chem, JSPL and Torrent Power were trading higher by 4.15 per cent, 3.42 per cent, 3.04 per cent and 2.51 per cent, respectively. 12.58 pm: Sensex was trading 59.83 points down at 28,063. Nifty was down 10.80 points at 8,662. Sagar Cements is reportedly planning to invest around Rs 145 crore in its expansion. The Hyderabad-based company is looking at around Rs 100 crore capex this year and during next fiscal it could be around Rs 45 crore. Shares of the company were trading 0.45 per cent up at Rs 625.
11.43 am: PC Jeweller is going to open its new showroom at Najafgarh in Delhi at 30-A, Bhogal Road and Jangpura in New Delhi on Sunday, August 21, 2016. After this, the company will have total of 65 showrooms located across 52 cities in India. Shares of the company were trading 2.90 per cent up at Rs 441.70. Sensex was down 11.74 points at 28,111.70.
11.10 am: Realty stocks were trading higher in the morning trade. NBCC was up by 1.69 per cent. DLF, Prestige, Sobha, Unitech were also trading higher between 0.75 per cent and 1.38 per cent. Sensex was down 23 points at 28099. Nifty was trading marginally down by 0.70 points at 8,672. Read more
10.28 am: Sensex was trading 2.28 points up at 28125. Nifty was up 3.10 points at 8676. In the 50-share index, NTPC, Grasim, Power Grid, Bosch and IndusInd Bank were up between 0.17 per cent and 1.03 per cent. On the other hand, Aurobindo Pharma, Adani Ports, ONGC, Wipro and TCS were down between 0.28 per cent and 0.35 per cent.
9.47 am: State Bank of Mysore shares were trading 10.05 per cent down at Rs 559.20 in the morning trade. Sensex was up 22 points at 28,146. Read more
9.17 am: Sensex was trading 53.32 points up at 28176.76, while Nifty was up 15 points at 8,688. In the 30-share index, State Bank of India, Infosys, Axis Bank and Tata Steel were up by 3.26 per cent, 0.75 per cent, 0.64 per cent and 0.53 per cent.
9.15 am: BSE Sensex opened 44.22 points up at 28,167.66, while NSE Nifty opened 21.05 points up at 8,694.30.
PRE-OPENING
The BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are likely to open lower on Friday tracking Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX Nifty) and mixed global cues. At 8.01 am (IST), SGX Nifty was down 13.50 points, 0.16 per cent, at 8669.50. Asian peers, Hang Seng, Shanghai and Nikkei were down by 0.31 per cent, 0.25 per cent and 0.14 per cent, respectively, in the morning trade.
Domestic equity markets jumped for the first time on Thursday in the past three trading sessions. Sensex jumped 118 points points to 28123.44 on Thursday, while Nifty index gained 49.20 points to 8673.25.
Shares of State Bank of India and its associates banks will remain in focus on Friday. SBI board on Thursday post market hours approved merger of three associate lenders and Bharatiya Mahila Bank (BMBL) with SBI.
Sun TV will announce it financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2016 on Friday.
