Indian equity benchmarks closed Wednesday’s trade for the fourth consecutive session. The Nifty 50 closed the day 113 points or 0.45% lower at 25,057, and the Sensex fell 387 points or 0.47% to end at 81,715.63. 

Similarly, the Nifty Bank settled 388 points or 0.70% lower at 55,121. The small and midcap stocks see deep cuts. The BSE Midcap declined 396 points, or 0.85%, at 45,972. On the other hand, the BSE Smallcap finished 270 points or 0.50% lower at 53,774.

Indices in intraday trade

The indices closed Wednesday’s session on a positive note. During the session, out of 3,134 trading stocks, 993 advanced, while 2,056 declined, and 85 remained unchanged. Today, 97 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high. Meanwhile, 53 stocks touched a new 52-week low. 

Top gainers 

Power Grid Corp was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Wednesday’s session, closing 1.68% higher. It was followed by Hindustan Unilever, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, and JSW Steel.

Top losers

Tata Motors’ shares were the biggest losers in today’s trade, declining 2.62%. It was followed by Bharat Electronics, Jio Financial Services, Adani Enterprises, Wipro, and many others.

Top sectors in Wednesday’s trade

The Power sector’s stocks fell the most in Wednesday’s weak trade, falling 2% in the market capitalisation. Further, Cables stocks were followed by the Tyre sector stocks, which were further followed by the Service sector stocks. The Housing stocks stood behind the Defence sector. However, the Electronics sector stocks rose the most. 

Best and worst performing business groups 

The Adani Group’s market cap fell the most in today’s session, dropping 4%. It was followed by the Poddar Group. Apart from that, the Adventz Group’s market capitalisation rose the most, increasing 6.7%. In the list of Adventz Group stocks, Paradeep Phosphates’ share rallied almost 11%.
