‘Muqaddar Ka Sikandar’ star Vinod Khanna passed away today at the age of 70 in Mumbai. Khanna was a versatile actor and managed to hold his own through the 1970s and for a while in the 1980s in the face of tough competition with established superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and others. The actor was reportedly suffering from cancer for quite some time. According to reports that were released earlier this month, the actor was admitted to HN Reliance Foundation and Research Centre in Girgaon, Mumbai after he complained of discomfort. The veteran actor was then taken to the hospital and was there for quite some time. Initially, his family refrained from speaking about his illness.

His son, actor Rahul Khanna, finally released a statement about his father which revealed that, “Dad was hospitalised on Friday for severe dehydration. The situation was quickly brought under control, he’s doing much better and the doctors are looking to discharge him soon. Our family is most grateful for the extraordinary care he’s been receiving at the hospital and we are touched by all the good wishes pouring in.” The actor was reportedly discharged after that. Achanak, Lahu Ke Do Rang, Inkaar, Mere Apne, Qurbani, Satyamev Jayate, Hera Pheri, Batwara, Amar Akbar Anthony, Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Aan Milo Sajna were some of Vinod Khanna’s top box office hits.
The reports about Khanna being seriously ill started after certain pictures of his flooded the social media. The change in one of the most handsome actors of his time along with the nature of the ailment caused consternation among his fans and the same was expressed by them on Twitter. Soon everyone was wishing him a quick recovery. However, neither the family of the actor nor the hospital confirmed the nature of the ailment.
According to an official from the hospital where he was admitted at that time, “Vinod Khanna was admitted on Sunday, April 2, and not on Friday, March 31 (some reports came in that the veteran actor was hospitalised on Friday). Also, the patient’s family members have asked us not to reveal more details, but there is definitely an improvement in Vinod Khannaji’s health,” as quoted by the Indian Express.
