A third-year LLB student at the National Law University in Delhi allegedly died by suicide on Monday. The body was found in her hostel room on Tuesday afternoon.
The police have recovered a suicide note from near the student’s body, Indian Express reported.
Additional DCP (Dwarka) Nishant Gupta said the young woman, a native of Chennai, was allegedly tensed over her academics and had mentioned about her suicidal thoughts to her roommates in April. “Her roommates had informed her family about the issue and they had taken her to Chennai for a week,” said DCP Gupta, IE reported.
The suicide note reportedly mentions that she doesn’t blame anyone for her decision and also apologised to her parents for taking the extreme step.
Reacting to the incident, National Law University said via a statement: “We mourn the untimely loss of one of our student and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends during this difficult time. The well-being of every student in university is the paramount and most important factor and NLU Delhi undertakes every steps in this regard. May her Soul rest in peace.”
As a mark of respect, NLU Delhi has suspended classes for the BA.LL.B students for the remainder of the week, Bar and Bench reported.
