Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Tayron R-Line, a sportier, more premium version of its upcoming three-row midsize SUV, confirming that the model is headed to India as part of the brand’s aggressive product offensive in the country. The R-Line variant, showcased in fresh teaser images, brings aggressive styling, enhanced features, and a more dynamic look to the Tayron lineup, positioning it to take on established rivals like the Hyundai Alcazar, MG Gloster, and Toyota Fortuner in the premium 7-seater segment.

The Tayron R-Line features signature VW R-Line design elements: a larger blacked-out grille with chrome accents, a sportier front bumper with larger air intakes, gloss-black side skirts, R-Line badging, unique 19-inch alloy wheels, and a rear diffuser with twin exhaust tips. The overall stance is lower and wider, with a more coupe-like roofline compared to the standard Tayron. LED matrix headlights, connected LED taillights, and a full-width light bar at the rear complete the premium, aggressive aesthetic.

VW Tayron R-Line specs and India-specific details

The India-spec Tayron R-Line is expected to be built on Volkswagen’s MQB Evo platform (the same architecture used for the Tiguan and upcoming Skoda Kodiaq facelift). It will likely be offered with two powertrain options:

– 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol (around 190 hp, 320 Nm) with 7-speed DSG automatic

– 2.0-litre TDI turbo-diesel (around 150–200 hp, 360–400 Nm) with 7-speed DSG and optional 4Motion AWD

Interior highlights teased so far include a large dual-screen setup (10.25-inch digital cluster + 12.9-inch infotainment), ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and Level-2 ADAS suite (adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, auto emergency braking). The 7-seater layout will offer flexible seating with a spacious third row and a boot capacity of over 500 litres with all seats up.

VW Tayron R-Line expected price

While official pricing will be announced closer to the India launch (expected in mid-to-late 2026), industry estimates place the Tayron R-Line in the Rs 35–45 lakh ex-showroom range. This positions it as a more premium alternative to the Hyundai Alcazar and MG Gloster, while undercutting the Toyota Fortuner and Jeep Meridian in top trims. Volkswagen aims to leverage the Tayron’s European build quality, refined ride, and advanced safety tech to regain ground in India’s premium SUV segment.

The Tayron R-Line reveal follows Volkswagen’s recent product momentum in India, including the launch of the Tiguan R-Line and the upcoming entry-level Taigun-based compact SUV. The three-row Tayron will be locally assembled at Volkswagen’s Pune plant, helping keep costs competitive despite high import duties on premium components.
