Ather Energy has rolled out its Infinite Cruise adaptive cruise control feature across the entire 450X electric scooter line-up, expanding a software-led riding aid that was earlier limited to the premium Ather 450 Apex. The feature will now be offered as standard on all new 450X scooters and enabled via over-the-air (OTA) updates for existing owners who purchased their vehicles from January 1, 2025 onwards.
Infinite Cruise was first announced at Ather Community Day 2025 and introduced on the Apex 450 in August last year. Unlike conventional cruise control systems designed largely for highway use, Ather says the system has been developed specifically for Indian urban riding conditions, where scooters operate at lower speeds and encounter frequent stop-start traffic.
Built for the City: How Infinite Cruise Differs from Highway Systems
The system remains continuously active in the background and does not fully disengage when the rider brakes or accelerates. Instead, it temporarily pauses during braking and automatically recalibrates to the new speed when the rider accelerates again, reducing the need for repeated throttle inputs. The feature can be activated from speeds as low as 10 kmph, making it suitable for congested city environments.
Triple-Action Logic: City, Hill, and Crawl Modes
Infinite Cruise operates across a speed range of 10–90 kmph and integrates three riding functions, CityCruise for adaptive speed control in traffic, Hill Control to maintain steady speeds on inclines and descents using regenerative braking, and Crawl Control for stable low-speed riding on uneven surfaces. These functions work in conjunction with Ather’s Multimode Traction Control and Magic Braking algorithms.
Ather said the rollout will cover over 44,000 eligible 450X customers, who will be notified via on-screen alerts on their scooter dashboards. The company attributed the backward compatibility to long-term hardware planning for the 2025 450 series.
The Ather 450X is currently priced from Rs 1.48 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
