The summer travel season is here, but selecting the ideal holiday destination is hard. With so many beaches, hills, rainforests, and other natural wonders to take in during the hot summer months, the decision can be overwhelming. Thankfully, there are all kinds of apps and tools ready to help make the choice a bit easier. Sudhir Chowdhary picks some of the trending holiday planning apps that help you plan better for summer, including where to go, how to reach there, and how to ensure the perfect summer holiday.

Kayak

Kayak is a travel fare aggregator website and travel metasearch engine. The website and mobile app is available in 20 languages and includes 40 international sites. It processes 1.5 billion fare searches per year. Along with search tools, Kayak offers tools that help with both planning and managing travel. Its Price Forecast feature helps people decide whether to buy now or wait. In addition to the fare history chart Kayak provides, Kayak Flight Search results now include a forecast of whether the prices in your search are likely to rise or fall within the next 7 days. Then, there is Trips feature which helps plan and organise travel, no matter from where or how one books it. It also helps track prices, create itineraries, get alerts, share plans, and more, wherever you roam. All for free.

MakeMyTrip

One of the oldest players in the online travel marketplace, MakeMyTrip offers some of the lowest airfares, exclusive discounts and a seamless online booking experience. Flight, hotel and holiday bookings through the desktop or mobile site is a delightfully customer friendly experience, and with just a few clicks you can complete your booking. With features like Instant Discounts, Fare Calendar, My Rewards Program, My Wallet and many more, the overall booking experience with MakeMyTrip constantly adds value to its product and continues to offer the best to its customers.

Trip Advisor

TripAdvisor is a catch-all app when it comes to travel. You can peruse reviews, opinions, videos, and photos pertaining to just about anything related to your trip—bars, restaurants, hotels, airlines, and more. You can use TripAdvisor’s Near Me function to find well-reviewed places close by, but the best feature the app has to offer is the number of countries it supports. It is just about everywhere, making it a necessary guide for every traveller. Furthermore, you can ask specific travel questions in the app’s forums or add your own reviews in a similar fashion to Yelp.

Airbnb

Airbnb is an online marketplace and hospitality service, enabling people to lease or rent short-term lodging including vacation rentals, apartment rentals, homestays, hostel beds, or hotel rooms. The app undercuts hotels by offering far cheaper prices, and a more authentic experience by staying with a local, or their home. The app recently added a new feature called Trips, which offers experiences to choose from during your stay—these are curated events you can partake in with local guides. Eventually the app will become an all-in-one travel app that lets you plan your day, book a car, and more.

Trivago

With Trivago, you can search for the perfect hotel and get your vacation deals at pretty decent prices. Its Hotel Finder feature will help you save money with tonnes of cheap hotels, compare prices and plan your next trip using one of the world’s largest online hotel search engine. You can save nearby hotels on the go and use map functionalities to find discounts. You can even compare prices for hotels from over 200 worldwide booking sites to get the best deal. That’s not all. You can save money on last-minute trips by taking advantage of the latest hotel
discounts and vacation deals. In other words, download today and start planning your next trip!

Excellent article. But there are some more great apps that help you immensely during your travel. One such app I generally use is NightStay. It's a last-minute hotel booking app for top rated hotels, giving out unsold rooms at unbelievable discounts. Check it out at s: www.nightstay
