Day after Nabha jail-break, Delhi Police nabs Khalistani terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo

Khalistani terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo who had escaped from Nabha jail yesterday, along with four others have arrested by Delhi Police police today.

Khalistani terrorist Harminder Singh Mintoo who had escaped from Nabha jail yesterday, along with four others have arrested by Delhi Police police today. Four prisoners who escaped with him were Gurpreet Singh, Vicky Gondra, Nitin Deol and Vikramjeet Singh. The incident had happened early morning, when the armed men fired more than 100 rounds at prison authorities. The dreaded terrorist was arrested by Punjab police from Delhi’s IGI airport on November 2014 when he was returning from Thailand.

Yesterday evening, one person was arrested in connection with the incident and huge cache of arms recovered from his car in Shamli. The 47-year-old was wanted in at least 10 terror-related cases, which include the 2008 attack on Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and recovery of explosives at Air Force station in Halwara in 2010. Mintoo took over the reins of KLF in 2009 after defecting from Wadhawa Singh-led Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). He was also wanted for planning killings of three Punjab Shiv Sena leaders.

During Mintoo’s stay in Pakistan, he had visited Europe to establish contacts and in June 2013, he left Pakistan for an European tour for 11 months. In South East Asia, he had travelled to Cambodia, Laos, Burma, apart from Thailand where he had set a base.Punjab Police’s counter-intelligence wing was tracking him and shared intelligence inputs with the investigating agencies. It was also found that Mintoo was using a fake Malaysian passport, which was issued in the name of one Gurdeep Singh.

Punjab and Haryana were on high alert after the incident with security around airports, ISBTs, railway stations, and other places of importance stepped up.
