The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced the facility of automatic top-up for NETC FASTag and RuPay National Common Mobility Card (NCMC). From now on, users will not need to receive a pre-debit notification 24 hours in advance for automatic top-up under the UPI AutoPay framework.

The move has been taken to simplify transactions for users of NETC FASTag and RuPay NCMC.

When the balance of these cards falls below the minimum threshold set by the user, automatic top-up will happen smoothly without any notification.

Earlier, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had announced the plan for the e-mandate framework to facilitate automatic top-up of these balances. This was mentioned in RBI’s “Statement on Developmental and Regulatory Policies” on June 7, 2024.

The new guidelines are aimed at enhancing user convenience by enabling instant automatic top-up when the balance is low.

While the pre-debit notification requirement has been removed, all other rules under the e-mandate framework will still apply. This means users can expect secure and regulated transactions for their NETC FASTag and RuPay NCMC.

To implement this change, banks issuing NETC FASTag and RuPay NCMC have been directed to strictly implement the automated top-up process as per its stated objectives.

In a separate initiative, UPI Lite users will get the option to enable auto top-up to reload their accounts from October 31. This new feature is meant to make small-value transactions easier.

UPI Lite Auto Top-up will automatically reload the account with the amount chosen by the user, ensuring balance replenishment for quick, PIN-less payments of less than Rs 500.
