Sensex Nifty Today | Stock Market Highlights: Domestic equity indices, Sensex and Nifty, ended Wednesday’s session on a strong note. The Sensex closed above the 80,000 mark, while the Nifty settled above 24,300. Tech and auto stocks were the standout performers, leading the rally and adding momentum to the day’s trade. The entire list of information technology stocks are also seeing a smart rally after the recent downtrend.

On Tuesday, the US stock markets snapped a four-day losing streak after the US Treasury Secretary expected a de-escalation in China-US tariffs in the near future. The US indices closed the session higher, in a range of 2.5%- 2.7%. Asian indices like Nikkei 225 and Kospi shot up as soon as they opened.

Here are 5 reasons why the markets were surging today

  • Tech stocks rally: The technology stocks are rallying after HCL Tech guidance implied significantly higher growth compared to the rest of the tech majors. Moreover, the CEO went on record saying there is no impact of US tariff so far for the company. Moreover the rally in tech stocks in US also added to the positive sentiment.
  • Overnight rally in US markets: This shot up the US markets, whose effect can be seen on Asian indices as well. The Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped 1,016.57 points, or 2.66%, to close at 39,186.98. The S&P 500 advanced 2.51% to settle at 5,287.76, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 2.71% to finish at 16,300.42.
  • US Treasury Secretary Bessent: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent expects “there will be a de-escalation” in President Donald Trump’s trade war with China in the “very near future.” He was talking to investors in a closed-door meeting. Bessent called the sky-high tariff fight between the US and China unsustainable.
  • Gold rate today: Gold prices are shining bright, crossing the crucial Rs 1 lakh mark per 10 grams. It was driven by strong buying from jewellers and stockists ahead of Akshaya Tritiya and the ongoing wedding season. The 24-carat gold rate today jumped to a lifetime high of Rs 1,01,600/10 grams, up from Rs 99,800 the previous day.
  • Musk to devote more time to Tesla: Tesla investors were relieved after Musk said he would scale back his government work and spend more time at Tesla. The key investor worry at the earnings call was Musk’s political ties to Trump, push to fire US government employees and support of right-wing movements in Europe. These have been weighing on the Tesla brand.
