UltraTech Cement Ltd, a Grasim subsidiary, on Tuesday reported a net profit of Rs 418 crore for the quarter to June 30, 2009, compared to Rs 265 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, up 57.7%. Net revenues the quarter stood at Rs 1,953 crore, up by 30.54%, from Rs 1,496 crore in the quarter ending June 30, 2008.

?The increase in PAT was driven by volume growth of 24% coupled with a fall in variable costs by 7% on account of captive power generation and softening of imported coal prices,” the company said in a statement.

Domestic volumes during the quarter registered an 18% growth to 4.65m tonne from 3.93m tonne for the corresponding quarter last year. Exports surged to 0.66m tonne, up 91% from 0.34m tonne in the same quarter last year. Although effective capacity utilisation remained flat at 95% of the expanded capacity, production at UltraTech was 14% higher at 4.52m tonne for the current quarter.

Dr Reddy’s profit up

Dr Reddy’s Laboratories has posted a net profit of Rs 227.4 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, as compared to Rs 210 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2008, on a standalone basis. Total income has increased from Rs 1118.5 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2008, to Rs 1220.7 crore during the quarter under review. On a consolidated basis, the company has reported a 21% growth in its revenues, which amounts to Rs 1,819 crore as against Rs 1,504 crore in Q1FY09. The PAT stood at Rs 244 crore as opposed to Rs 111 crore in Q1FY09. EBITDA stood at Rs 436 crore as against Rs 2,340 crore, a 90% YoY growth. The consolidated net sales touched Rs 238.89 crore from Rs 91.97 crore in the corresponding period of last year. Total income has increased from Rs 1547.6 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2008 to Rs 1839.3 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009.

Thermax net profit dips 27%

Thermax on Tuesday reported a 27.01% drop in its net profit at Rs 46.49 crore in the quarter ended June 30, 2009. The company had a net profit of Rs 63.70 crore in the June quarter of 2008, it said in a filing to the BSE. Total income decreased to Rs 547.88 crore in the quarter under review from Rs 727.15 crore in the year-ago period. Shares of Thermax were trading at Rs 457, up 0.44% over the previous close on the BSE.

Chambal net at Rs 55 cr

Chambal Fertilisers & Chemicals on Tuesday reported a net profit of Rs 55.31 crore for the quarter ended June compared to Rs 23.79 crore for the same period last year, the company said in a filing to the BSE.

Income from operations declined to Rs 769.86 crore in quarter against Rs 805.26 crore in the same quarter last year.

Radico Khaitan net up 55%

Riding over robust sales of two of its popular brands, 8PM whisky and Magic Moments vodka, spirits maker Radico Khaitan on Tuesday reported a 55.52% jump in its net profit at Rs 10.70 crore for quarter ended June 30, 2009. The company had a net profit of Rs 6.88 crore in the corresponding quarter ended June 30, 2008.

Net sales rose to Rs 274.38 crore in the latest quarter against Rs 223.62 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

Banco net at Rs 16 crore

Banco Products India Ltd, a manufacturer of automotive components, has reported net sales of Rs 86 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2009, registering a growth of 2%, compared to Rs 84 crore posted in the same period of the last fiscal. Net profit for the first quarter of FY10 was at Rs 16 crore as compared to Rs 14 crore in the year-ago period. EPS for the quarter worked out to Rs 2.3 compared to Rs 1.04 for the same period last fiscal.
