Kalinga Utkal Express train accident LIVE: In an unfortunate event, Puri Haridwar Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli, a town near Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh.  As many as 14 coaches went off track and over 40 people have been reported injured in the incident. The train was going to Haridwar with its arrival time scheduled at 9 PM. The incident took place at around 5:50 PM. The government has confirmed 23 deaths, however, the number can go up. The reason behind the accident is still not clear. A Uttar Pradesh ATS team has initiated a probe into the matter. The reason behind the accident is yes yet to be ascertained. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has announced ex gratia of Rs 3.5 Lakh for those who lost lives.

9: 17 am: The railways today deployed high-tech cranes and scores of workers to clear the tracks even as the sleepy town of Khatauli tried to come to terms with the train tragedy.

9: 05 am: Trains on Meerut line have been cancelled or diverted till 6 pm, reported ANI.

8: 46 am: The statement by the Northern Railway stated: “In order to expedite the relief and rescue work of the derailed 18477 Puri – Haridwar Utkal Kalinga Express, Minister for Railway Suresh Prabhu is personally monitoring the relief and rescue work and he has directed Railway authorities to provide best possible medical assistance to injured passengers and all possible help to relatives and co-passengers of affected passengers.”

8: 30 am: According to a statement by the Northern Railway, General Manager R.K. Kulshrestha is personally monitoring the relief work at site.

8: 23 am: Affected rail route is expected to be cleared and traffic is likely to be restored by 7 p.m. today, reported ANI.

3:30 am: According to Times Now’s latest report, 23 people are feared dead and over 80 people have been injured in the Muzaffarnagar train derailment.

3:00 am: According to reports, coaches which were severely damaged were S1 to S10 sleeper class, third AC B1, second AC A1 coach and the pantry.

2:45 am: President Ramnath Kovind tweets saying, ”sad at train derailment in UP; my thoughts are with deceased & their families. Injured are being rescued & provided relief.”

2:30 am: According to latest updates, Saharanpur Divison and District Magistrate, Muzaffarnagar, G S Priyadarshi said 90 people were injured in the accident and most of them have been admitted at district hospital, Muzaffragnagar. Some others were taken to Muzaffarnagar Medical College and Meerut Medical College, he added.

1:45 am: According to the latest report, the one of the fourteen coaches of a high-speed Utkal Express which jumped off the rails crashed into a house adjacent to the track near Khatauli.

1:00 am: The tragic accident in Khatauli area in the district was not a nightmare for just the passengers of the ill-fated Utkal Express, but also for the locals whose houses lined the tracks, and are now splattered with blood.

12: 30 am: Congress chief Sonia Gandhi today expressed shock and grief at the derailment of the Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar. She conveyed her thoughts and prayers with the families of the victims.

12:10 am: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee tweeted on the Muzaffarnagar railway incident saying, ” deaths due to accidents pain us all.Condolences to families who lost loved ones.Safety must always be No.1 priority of IndianRailways.”

12:05 am: Rahul Gandhi expressed his grief for the families who suffered loss. He tweeted about it saying, ” shocked to know about the unfortunate accident of Utkal Express in Muzaffarnagar. My thoughts with the families who lost their loved ones.”

12:00 pm: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced Rs five lakh ex-gratia relief to the next of the kin of Odia passengers killed in the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailment in Uttar Pradesh.

11: 55 pm: The derailment of the Puri- Haridwar Utkal Kalinga Express near Muzaffarnagar resulted in cancellation of three train services, including Ambala-Delhi- Ambala Intercity Express and Haridwar-Puri Utkal Kalinga Express, commencing journey tomorrow. Apart from this, six other trains, which commenced journey today, have been diverted, the railway ministry said in a statement.

      were there no accidents during lalu yadav as rail mantri?how many times has he resigned ? accidents are a failure of railway management but lalu yadav criticism is unwarranted and for the sake of it.he should have some shame in him while attacking the present rail minister.
