HDFC Bank made some critical changes to its reward points programme and introduced or altered charges for certain transactions, effective August 1, the bank has informed its customers through emails.
Here are the revisions to HDFC Bank credit card terms an loyalty programme:
- The bank has capped reward points earned on utility transactions at 2000 points per calendar month.
- Reward points earned on telecom & cable transactions capped at 2000 points per calendar month.
- Education payments made through third-party apps like (but not limited to) CRED, Cheq, MobiKwik, and others will ‘NOT’ earn reward points. However, education payments made directly through college/school websites or their POS machines will earn reward points.
- Every Rs 150 spent on your credit card will earn three reward points on eligible transactions.

Revisions to other charges on transactions on HDFC Bank credit cards
Fuel Charges: The bank will levy 1% fee on fuel transaction exceeding Rs 15,000 for consumer cards, Rs 30,000 for business cards. Fee will be applied on the total transacted amount. This charge is capped at Rs 3,000 per transaction, effective August 1, 2024.
Utility Charges: HDFC Bank will impose 1% fee on utility transactions exceeding Rs 50,000 for consumer cards per transaction, and Rs 75,000 for business cards per transaction. This will be applied on the total transacted amount. The fee is capped at Rs 3,000 per transaction, with effective from August 2024.
Education Charges: The bank will charge 1% fee on education transactions done through third-party applications like (but not limited to) CRED, PhonePe, No-broker, Cheq etc. Fee capped at Rs 3,000 per transaction. Education transactions done directly through college/school websites or through POS machines at their premises will not be charged.
Lounge Access:
Priority Pass – The bank will charge USD 27 + taxes on all the lounge visits exceeding the complimentary limit.
Infinia, Infinia (Metal Edition): Complimentary priority pass membership for Primary and add-on card holders with unlimited lounge access for priority pass card holder.
Diners Club Credit Card – All visits exceeding the complimentary limit will be charged at the prevailing lounge rate inclusive of taxes. Card validation charges for the lounge will be levied and not reversed.
