Here’s a closer look at how the session unfolded across key pockets of the market.
Top gainers
The metals space had another active session, with several heavyweights lifting the broader indices. Hindalco, Tata Steel and UltraTech Cement were among the most prominent names contributing to the day’s gains. Nestle India and JSW Cement also featured on the list of outperformers.
Key losers
On the flip side, select fast-moving consumer goods and pharma stocks faced selling pressure. Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, Max Healthcare, ITC and Asian Paints were among the key laggards during the session.
Midday movers
One of the standout intraday moves came from Tata Steel, which climbed more than 3% by midday.
The Nifty Metal index was up around 1.5%, supported by gains in Hindustan Copper and Hindustan Zinc – both rising nearly 3% along with National Aluminium Company and Hindalco Industries.
Vedanta shares also edged higher by about 2% after the company secured the Genjana nickel, chromium and platinum group elements (PGE) block under the government’s Critical Mineral Auctions – Tranche III.
Another notable mover was Lloyds Engineering Works. The stock gained around 3% after the company announced plans to set up a new defence-focused unit, Lloyds Advanced Defence Systems.
