Himachal Pradesh Shimla Rural Assembly Election Results 2022 Highlights: From the Shimla Rural constituency, sitting Congress MLA and son of late chief minister Virbhadra Singh, Vikramaditya Singh, who is up against Ravi Mehta from BJP, Prem Thakur of Aam Aadmi Party, won. Vikamaditya Singh got 32,973 votes, and BJP candidate secured 19,654 votes. AAP candidate Prem Kumar got 238 votes. Meanwhile, Pratibha Singh, who is the wife of former chief minister late Virbhadra Singh, told reporters, “We are confident that results will be in favour of the Congress and we will form the government”. The counting of votes for the 68-member assembly began at 8 am today. Himachal Pradesh has not returned any incumbent government to power in the last nearly four decades.

Shimla Rural Results Live: Round 12 counting underway

Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh leads with 21,935 votes so far. In the curent round he got 2,238 votes.

BJP's Ravi Kumar Mehta trails with 12,587 votes, and has got 1,438 votes in the 12th round of counting.

AAP candidate Prem Kumar in a distant third with 111 votes so far.

Shimla Rural Himachal Pradesh Live: 76.44 per cent of voters voted on Nov 12

About 76.44 per cent of voters had exercised their franchise in the assembly polls held on November 12.

As many as 52,859 (87 per cent approximately) postal ballots were received by December 6 by the returning officers from all over the state – an increase of 17 per cent as compared to 2017. A total of 45,126 postal ballots were received in 2017.

The EVM counting will continue irrespective of the stage of postal ballot counting.

The commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes with more than 10,000 security personnel, returning officers, and other support staff overseeing the counting process for the 68 assembly constituencies in Himachal Pradesh.

Himachal Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg said subject to availability of space, a maximum of 14 counting tables and a minimum of eight counting tables will be placed in the counting halls, with a separate table to accommodate nearly 500 postal ballots.

There will also be separate tables for scanning of electronically transmitted postal ballots linked to computers for counting. (PTI)

Shimla Rural Himachal Pradesh 2022 Live: Counting across 59 locations

Counting of votes began at 8 am at 68 counting halls spread across 59 locations throughout the state with the taking up of postal ballots first. After a gap of 30 minutes from the commencement of counting of postal ballot papers, counting of votes for electronic voting machines (EVMs) will commence at 8.30 am.

In the Shimla Rural constituency in 2017, Vikramaditya Singh from the Congress won defeating Dr Pramod Sharma from the BJP. The winning margin was 4,880. A total of four candidates were in the fray in the last Assembly elections. In 2012, Congress’ Virbhadra Singh defeated BJP’s Ishwar Rohal by a margin of 20,000 votes.
