The Delhi Police has ramped up security across the national capital, with over 10,000 personnel, including traffic officers, set to be deployed during New Year celebrations. Special measures are being implemented to curb hooliganism, traffic violations, and other unlawful activities, officials confirmed on Thursday.

According to a senior police officer, a robust security plan has been in place since Christmas, with additional pickets, barricades, and paramilitary forces deployed at border areas to manage crowds from neighboring states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. “We aim to ensure everyone welcomes the New Year joyfully but within the bounds of the law,” the officer said.

Key areas such as Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, major markets, and malls will see intensified monitoring. Only vehicles with valid stickers will be allowed into Connaught Place’s Inner Circle, while heightened security will also be evident at popular spots like India Gate.

Traffic police have detailed plans to address drunk driving and motorcycle stunts, with immediate impounding of vehicles for violations. SHOs and their teams will be on the roads in shifts to maintain law and order.

Efforts are also underway to identify illegal residents in the city through checks at bus stands, railway stations, hotels, and night shelters. This special drive will continue alongside the New Year deployment.

“The focus is on ensuring a safe and enjoyable New Year for all, with strict action against lawbreakers,” added another senior officer.
