Congress Candidate List For Mizoram: The Congress party has released the names of its candidates for all 40 assembly seats for the upcoming Mizoram election, which is set to go to polls on November 7. The counting of votes will take place on December 3. The party has fielded Lalsanglura Ralte from the Aizwal East-I constituency, currently held by Mizo National Front (MNF) President and Chief Minister Zoramthanga. Congress was in power in Mizoram between 2008 and 2018. In 2018, Mizo National Front (MMF) stormed back to power unseating the Lal Thanhawla-led Congress government.

The Congress’ candidates list was out for Mizoram Elections 2023 when Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on a two-day visit, beginning Monday, to the election-bound state to campaign for its party candidates. He took part in a padayatra, and also addressed rally attacking the BJP and ruling MNF. The Congress leader rode pillion on a two-wheeler taxi in state capital Aizawl on Tuesday, and also met veteran Congress leader and former chief minister Lal Thanhawla at his residence.
In the Congress’ candidates list, Mizoram Congress Committee chief Lalsawta has been fielded from Aizawl West-III (ST), Lalnunmawia Chuaungo has been given the party ticket from Aizawl North-I (ST). Lalrindika Ralte will contest from Hachhek (ST), Lalhmingthanga Sailo from Dampa (ST) and Lalrinmawia from Aizawl North-II. The party first released a list of 39 candidates and then in the evening it announced the candidature of Meiriam L Hrangchal from Lunglei South (ST) constituency.

The 40-strong Mizoram Legislative Assembly is currently under the rule of Chief Minister Zoramthanga-led MNF. The term of the 8th Mizoram Legislative Assembly expires in December, 2023. In the 2018 Mizoram elections, the MNF had bagged 26 seats, eight seats were won by primary opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM). The Congress is presently on five seats, and one of the BJP.
