The BMC elections have set up a showdown between two major alliances. The ruling Mahayuti alliance includes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde, and the NCP under Ajit Pawar.
On the other side, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) consists of Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, and the Indian National Congress. For this election, the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has joined forces with Shiv Sena (UBT), while the Congress has partnered with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA).
