As India beats South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup final, skipper Rohit Sharma becomes most popular player on social media with 70,222,648 earned engagements, as per Sprinklr insights. While India ended the ICC trophy draught in Barbados, social media exploded with cricket conversations. The fans sparked over 5.717 million conversations about cricket from late May to present day, with over 1.293 billion engagements. 

Reportedly, the majority of these cricket conversations took place on X and YouTube. Across the joint platforms of X, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, Facebook, and news outlets, the combined conversations generated over 486.67 billion views in reach. Over 89.41% of all conversations showcased positive sentiments. With a huge fan base, India leads the global numbers of cricket conversations surrounding the World Cup across social media – generating over one million conversations alone. India’s victory generated over 1,54,997 mentions and 24,480,256 earned engagements. 

The report also suggests that Indian fans made team India the favourites for the tournament. South Africa also remained prominent favourites in online conversations, followed closely by Oman and Australia. After qualifying for super-eight stage, USA led by former Indian U-19 player Sourabh Netravalkar became the fifth popular team of the tournament. Brands also joined the party as WhatsApp was the most mentioned brand in online conversations about the World Cup with 25 thousand mentions across social media. Hotstar followed them with 20 thousand mentions and Dream11, Amazon got 16 thousand and 11 thousand mentions respectively.
