Picking the right gift for a loved one can be extremely confusing and time taking because it isn’t just another crockery set for the neighbours. It is something you want should bring a smile on their faces (and hope they’re not just being nice out of courtesy). Well, if the person in question happens to be a motoring enthusiast, hallelujah! It is going to be a lot easier picking a gift for them. India is quite proud of its diversity and why not? We get to celebrate festivals from so many religions and Christmas is a lot of fun. To make things easier, we’ve put together a list of some neat gift items and experiences that you can present to your special ones this Christmas. If there are constraints as to how much you want to spend on these, the list comprises something for every pocket. It could be something that is of use or a trinket that just looks good, and if you’re feeling rich, there are even better experiences that you might consider.
Track day: If they own a sports motorcycle, you could buy them a day out on the track, so they can go leaning and speeding as much as they want in a safe and controlled environment. If they are into fast driving, they could have a day on the Buddh International Circuit (Greater Noida, UP) in one of the circuit owned cars, which are race-spec Volkswagen Polos, that would set you back about Rs 10000-20000, depending upon the time spent. Driving a car such as the Audi R8 or a Mercedes-Benz AMG could be a much more expensive affair with a day’s experience costing about Rs 75,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Of course, for that money, you get the car and instructors to help you go faster and a certificate as well!
Gaming console: Need For Speed has been a name most of us have grown up with. So, a Play Station would make a brilliant gift option to feed their appetite for racing. A broadband internet connection can make the experience better as most games these days allow online gaming and interaction with gamers worldwide. A Play Station will leave them sobbing in tears of joy as MotoGP or dirt biking games are incredibly fun and food for their competitive spirit. Add some additional accessories such as a steering wheel and the experience becomes even more enjoyable. A 1TB PS4 console can set you back by about Rs 35,000 and each game costs anywhere between Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000.
Motorcycle gear: If your brother or sister is a motorcycle enthusiast, chances are that they spend a considerable amount of money on gear. A helmet or gloves or a jacket or shoes. Good helmets come with a starting price tag of Rs 3800 and extend to qualities that are priced at Rs 1 lakh and beyond. Gloves too, an essential part of the gear, make a brilliant gift option. Prices start from as low as Rs 500. A decent motorcycle jacket with basic protection would cost about Rs 4000 and upwards. Online websites are the best place to buy such gear and at times close out deals can land you some great discounts too. (Product images courtesy: Revzilla)
Luxury car rental: Irrespective of one being a car enthusiast or not, who wouldn’t love a ride in a luxury car, which is a dream for most people. While buying such cars can be a seriously expensive affair, renting them for a day is affordable today for many. For some hours, it allows people to soak in the experience of being in such a vehicle. To put things in perspective, a Mercedes-Benz CLA would cost you about Rs 300 per hour, plus fuel and an added charge if you exceed a pre-described range of kilometres.
Scale models: Most of the people have a certain benchmark in their minds regarding what they think is the best looking car in the world. A Lamborghini Miura, Ferrari 275 GTB California, Alfa Romeo 8C, it could be any. Every biking enthusiast has a dream machine that they one day want to ride or purchase. It could be a Suzuki Hayabusa or a BMW S1000RR HP4 or a Kawasaki H2R. Scale models are easily available at toy shops or dedicated model shops. While the cheaper ones can be bought for as less as Rs 200, the more authentic ones could cost upwards of Rs 2,500. (Product image courtesy: Amazon)
Accessories: Puma offers shoes that have been designed, specifically for driving, in collaboration with Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas and Ducati. They’re slim and hence provide ease in switching between two or three pedals and are comfortable to wear casually as well. You could also purchase car perfumes or bobbleheads to place on the dash in the car. For the motorcyclists, how about a Ducati phone cover or a Ferrari watch or a Ferrari Scuderia bag or Mercedes-AMG espresso cups. If they are a MotoGP fan, team or a rider branded merchandise too can be a great hit. Online stores are the best place to buy such stuff at affordable prices if authenticity isn’t too important. Quote t-shirts: Motorcyclists don’t always have to be clad in leathers and protective gear. For the times they aren’t, the clothing can still be all about bikes, such as t-shirts with some neat graphics or slogans on. We went on the Internet to find you some examples and well, there is a lot you can choose from. And these will be easy on the pocket too.
