Delhi Police have arrested an Indian Mujahideen terrorist Ariz Khan alias Junaid who had been on the run for a long time. Junaid was reportedly involved in five bomb blast cases and was nabbed by Special Cell of Delhi Police. Junaid was one of the terrorists involved in the Batla House encounter. It was confirmed by the Delhi Police in a press conference that he came to India a month after the Batla House encounter, and was involved in the encounter. DCP of Special Cell Delhi Police, Pramod Singh Kushwaha mentioned that he was present in the room when the encounter took place. The encounter happened in Batla House area of Jamia Nagar in Delhi on September 19, 2008. During the encounter, two suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorists — Mohammed Sajid and Atif Amin — were killed. Apart from this, two suspected Indian Mujahideen operatives — Mohammad Saif and Zeeshan — were arrested. In the unfortunate event, Delhi Police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed.

Back in July 2013, a trial court in Delhi had sentenced Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Shahzad Ahmed to life imprisonment in connection with the Batla House encounter case. His appeal against the trial court’s verdict has been pending in the high court.

He was also wanted in 2007 UP blasts, 2008 Jaipur serial blasts, 2008 Ahmedabad blasts and had escaped from Batala House encounter.”
