China‘s foreign ministry has responded to the reports of halting Boeing jet deliveries, saying that they are “unaware of the situation”, a report by MKTNews said. As a result of its retaliatory tariffs, the US has now slapped China with up to a 245% tariff on imports. China responded saying,”we don’t want conflict, but we won’t stay silent.”
US President Donald Trump had said on Tuesday that China backed out of a big deal with US aircraft maker Boeing. He had said this after a Bloomberg news report claimed that China told its airlines to stop receiving Boeing jet deliveries further. The Bloomberg report also said that China had asked its airlines to stop buying airplane parts and other related equipment from American companies.
“Interestingly, they just reneged on the big Boeing deal, saying that they will ‘not take possession’ of fully committed to aircraft,” Trump said in a Truth Social post, referring to China as the trade war continues to escalate between world’s two biggest economies.
Trump had also said earlier that American farmers are usually the first to be affected during trade talks or trade fights with countries like China because they play a big role in the economy. He said the same thing happened when he was president before, as China was tough on US farmers back then too.
He revealed that he had asked farmers to stay patient, and later made a trade deal that gave them $28 billion in support, which came from the agreement with China.
Trump called the deal a success for the US but blamed Joe Biden for not making sure China followed it. He said China didn’t stick to the full deal after Biden became president.
