Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team’s captain and Mumbai Indians star opener, recently lashed out at the TV broadcasters over lack of privacy. He brought up the topic of the lack of privacy in the lives of cricketers in recent times while calling out a prominent network for breaching the line.

Rohit Sharma criticised broadcaster on social media platform X for airing his private conversations despite his requests for privacy. “The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we have in privacy with our friends and colleagues, whether at training or on match days,” Sharma tweeted after Mumbai Indians concluded their IPL 2024 campaign.

“Despite asking Star Sports not to record my conversation, it was still aired, which is a breach of privacy. The obsession with exclusive content and views will one day erode the trust between fans, cricketers, and the sport itself,” Sharma added.

According to the Indian Express, Sharma was seen requesting broadcasters to shut down the audio while recording him after his conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders’ Abhishek Nayar. This chat occurred following MI’s IPL fixture against KKR on May 11.

KKR posted the audio of this chat on their social media, leading fans to speculate that Sharma was discussing leaving MI after the current season. Following the controversy, KKR’s social media team removed the video.

On May 17, Sharma was again recorded while chatting with Dhawal Kulkarni before MI’s match against Lucknow Super Giants. Spotting the recording, Sharma, with folded hands, asked the broadcasters to turn off the audio, citing the previous incident that caused trouble.

“Bhai audio band karo haan, already ek audio ne mera waat laga diya (Brother, please turn off the audio; one audio has already caused me trouble),” Sharma said in the video, which also went viral.
