Prime Minister Narendra Modi today released the 20th installement of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, which covers nearly 10 crore farmers across the country, at a public welfare and development programme organised in his Lok Sabha Constituency Varanasi.
Over 10 crore farmers to benefit, including 25% women beneficiaries
Of these nearly 10 crore farmers who receive the PM-Kisan benefit, nearly 25% of them are female farmers. The 20th installment of the scheme will cost the Central exchequer about Rs 21,000 crore.
Under this flagship scheme of the Modi government, the Centre transfers Rs 6,000 to farmers in three installments, with each installment issued every four months (April–July, August–November, and December–March) each financial year through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) without involvement of any middlemen.
The government has so far released 19 installments since the launch of the mega scheme on February 24, 2019.
Since the launch of the scheme, Rs 3.75 lakh crore has been transferred to farmers’ accounts through installments, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said at the event.
“For over 85% of Indian farmers who own less than two hectares of land, PM-KISAN has been a lifeline. The money helps during sowing or harvest, when cash is tight. It eases stress, reduces the need for informal loans, and acts as a safety net in tough times. But it’s not just about money. The scheme gives farmers a sense of dignity and shows they are valued partners in building the nation. A big reason for its success is India’s strong digital system,” the government said in a PIB release.
