Taxpayers filing their income tax returns have faced a host of technical problems on Monday — with netizens flagging login errors and multi-hour delays while using the online portal. The developments came even as the Income Tax Department began processing returns for the current assessment year. More than 25 lakh ITRs have already been filed, and refunds are likely to begin soon.

ITR filing has already started with a delay in June 2025, and the portal is giving so many errors. After filing ITR, the downloading of ITRV and ITR Form is too slow, mostly getting ‘technical error, please try after some time‘ messages,” lamented one user.

Several social media users also pointed out on Monday that the financial year had ended nearly ten weeks earlier. Income Tax forms were also released later-than-usual this year as the Department worked to revise the documents and updated e-filing utilities. Netizens complained that they had been facing a barrage or ‘error’ messages over the past few days while trying to file their documents.

“Able to file ITR. But why is ITR V not downloading? Why can’t you run a website smoothly? Right now, there is little load on the portal…what will happen at peak time? Digital India, really? This is the height of incompetence!” wrote one outraged X user.

Another shared that the website had become unresponsive midway — despite multi-hour efforts to e-verify their returns. The complaint was also echoed by several others on the social media platform, with a third user insisting that no ITRs were “getting verified through Aadhaar OTP or EVC” since Saturday.

“Unable to download ITR V for many clients. Please don’t ask to raise ‘ticket‘. Please rectify immediately!” fumed a third.

“The e-filing portal is working fine. Please try again after clearing the browser cache or try using a different browser. Should you still face any issues, please share your details (along with PAN and your mobile number) at orm@cpc.incometax.gov.in. Our team will contact you,” the Income Tax Department wrote in response to one complaint.
