Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 Live: Earnings growth to drive Samvat 2082 rally
Dr. V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said the key takeaway from Samvat 2081 was India’s “huge underperformance.” He attributed this mainly to a sharp fall in earnings growth — down to 5% in FY25 from an average 24% over the previous three years.
He noted, “Since in the long run the market is a slave of earnings, the major trend going forward will depend on how earnings growth pans out.” With fiscal and monetary reforms starting to show results - reflected in stronger auto and white goods sales this festive season - he expects earnings growth to improve to 8–10% in FY26, and possibly 15% in FY27.
“If this materialises, the market will rally in Samvat 2082, compensating for the underperformance of Samvat 2081,” he added, while noting that a possible India–US trade deal could provide a short-term boost.
Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 Live: Fiscal and monetary reforms will drive earnings this Samvat
The important takeaway from Samvat 2081 is India’s huge underperformance. Even though there are many reasons, including Trump tariffs, for this underperformance, the single major factor is the sharp decline in India’s earnings growth to 5 % in FY25 from an average of 24% during the three years before that. Since “in the long run the market is a slave of earnings”, the major trend, going forward, will depend on how earnings growth pans out. The fiscal and monetary reforms implemented this year have started showing results, said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments.
Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 Live: Geojit Investment's outlook on Samvat 2082
The sales of automobiles and white goods have shot up early this festive season, and if this trend sustains, earnings growth will be good at around 8 to 10% in FY26, accelerating to around 15 % in FY27. If this expectation materialises, the market will rally in Samvat 2082, compensating for the underperformance of Samvat 2081. In the short run, the market may get a leg up from a possible India-US trade deal, but the long-term trend will be dictated by earnings growth.

Diwali Muhurat Trading 2025 Live: Mehta Equities on Samvat 2082 outlook
"As we step into Samvat 2082, we believe the Indian equity markets are well-positioned to deliver stronger returns, supported by several key tailwinds like a substantial Rs 12 lakh crore tax-free budgetary push, coupled with the anticipated GST 2.0 reforms, is expected to revive consumption and accelerate corporate earnings growth particularly the double-digit growth that has been missing over the past 2–3 quarters. In addition to the above, a likely strategic trade deal between the US and India could open new export avenues and enhance bilateral cooperation,” said Prashanth Tapse, Senior Vice President of Research at Mehta Equities.
