Micromax founder Rahul Sharma’s YU smartphone brand on Tuesday launched its second phone — the Yuphoria — and entered the health segment with two new devices — Yu Fit Band and HealthYU Cassette.
The Yuphoria is priced aggressively at Rs 6,999 with a metal frame and a 5-inch HD screen.
Sharma said that this will be a ‘Made-in-India’ smartphone and was developed in Bengaluru and Beijing. He said that the first couple of batches for the Yuphoria will be shipped from China and the rest will be made in India. Yu claims to have sold half-a-million Yureka smartphones, the first device that was launched by the company.
Given the pricing and specs, the Yuphoria will provide serious competition to brands like Xiaomi, Lenovo and Motorola. Incidentally, Xiaomi’s Redmi 2 is priced at R6,999.
The company also launched a Yu Fit band at R999, same price as the recently-launched Xiaomi Mi Band. But the really innovative launch from the company is the new health sensor called HealthYU Cassette.
Pre-bookings for Yuphoria start on Amazon and it will go on sale on May 28. Health devices will be available from June.
