The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a new Aadhaar mobile app to help people protect their personal details from online fraud and scams. With cases of fake websites, phishing calls and OTP fraud increasing, the app aims to give users better control over their Aadhaar information.
The new app replaces the older mAadhaar app and comes with a cleaner design and easier navigation. It works on both Android and iOS smartphones and is designed to be faster and more user-friendly.
What’s New in the Aadhaar App?
After downloading the app from the official Google Play Store or Apple App Store, users can log in using their Aadhaar number and an OTP sent to their registered mobile number. The app also supports face authentication, fingerprint login, and secure PIN access.
Once logged in, users can view their Aadhaar details, including name, photo and address, without needing to enter their details repeatedly. The app securely stores information on the device, reducing the need for frequent verification.
Strong Security Features
One of the most important features of the new Aadhaar app is the biometric lock and unlock option. If users feel their Aadhaar data may be misused, they can instantly lock their fingerprint and iris data. This prevents anyone from using biometrics for authentication without permission.
The app also allows users to generate a Virtual ID (VID), which is a temporary 16-digit number that can be used instead of sharing the actual Aadhaar number. This helps reduce the risk of data leaks.
Another safety feature is TOTP (Time-based One-Time Password), which generates OTPs directly within the app instead of relying on SMS. This protects users from SIM swap and message-based frauds.
For offline identity checks, the app provides a secure QR code that shares only limited, encrypted details instead of the full Aadhaar number.

UIDAI advises users to download only the official Aadhaar app, never share OTPs or PINs, use Virtual ID whenever possible, lock biometrics if suspicious activity is noticed, and regularly check authentication history.
With these features, the new Aadhaar app aims to make digital identity safer and easier for Indian citizens.
