West Bengal BJP List of Candidates: The BJP on Saturday released its first list of candidates comprising the names of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections which included the names of aspirants for 20 seats in the Trinamool Congress-ruled state that has 42 constituencies. As the party released the list, a major controversy rolled out with the party giving ticket to Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh from the Asansol seat. As the political pot boiling, a day later, Singh announced on Sunday that he would not be able to contest from Asansol “due to some reason”. His candidacy faced criticism from the TMC, which said that many of his songs were crude and portrayed women, including those from the state, in a vulgar manner.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to contest from Varanasi for the third time, as the BJP unveiled its first list of 195 candidates for the Lok Sabha polls. The list includes 34 Union ministers, among them notable figures such as Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, who will contest from their current Gandhinagar and Lucknow seats respectively. Additionally, former chief ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Biplab Kumar Deb are also featured in the list. Unlike previous polls, the list had few surprises, except in Delhi where four sitting MPs, including Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi, former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan, and Ramesh Bidhuri, have been replaced.
