Holi or the ‘Festival of Colours’ is here and Congress President Rahul Gandhi is flying to Italy to celebrate it. Gandhi will be travelling to the European country to celebrate Holi with his grandmother who is reportedly 93-year-old. The Congress President took to Twitter and announced the news of his planned trip. “My Nani is 93. She’s the kindest soul ever. This Holi weekend, I’m going to surprise her! I can’t wait to give her a hug…. Happy Holi to all of you. Have a joyful celebration,” he said.

Notably, this is not the first time that Gandhi is visiting his grandmother. Last year in June Gandhi had visited his grandmother to take a break from the politics. Before the trip, he tweeted,”Will be travelling to meet my grandmother & family for a few days. Looking forward to spending some time with them.”

The Congress President’s grandmother lives in Paola Maino, Italy. Following the trip, Gandhi was attacked by BJP leaders who called it as a ‘summer vacation picnic’.The reason for his foreign trip had come in the midst of hectic politics over farmers’ protest.

The ‘Grand Old Party’ had hit back hard on BJP’s taunt said that it is Indian culture to visit ageing grandparents. Congress spokesperson RS Surjewala said that Gandhi’s trip to meet his 93-year-old grandmother which is an Indian culture to take care of your ageing parents and grandparents.

Meanwhile, Gandhi on Thursday said that his party’s victory in the Mungaoli and Kolaras Assembly by-poll, Madhya Pradesh is a “defeat of arrogance and misrule” and that “a change is in the offing.”

He tweeted,”.I congratulate the aware people of Madhya Pradesh, the voters and the Congress workers for our emphatic victory in Mungaoli and Kolaras.”

In an unprecedented turn of events, Congress had won the by-polls ahead of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections which are scheduled to take place this year.
