“The revered seer, dedicated his life to religious practices and service of Mother Narmada, gave direction to the lives of countless devotees. I pray to Baba Mahakal to grant a place to the virtuous soul in his feet and to grant strength to his countless followers to bear this sorrow,” the CM wrote on X.
Who was Siyaram Baba?
Born in 1933 in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, Siyaram Baba began his spiritual journey at the age of 17. After studying under his guru and travelling to several pilgrimage sites, he arrived in Bhattayan in 1962. It was there that he began intense meditation beneath a tree. He eventually broke his silence with the chant of “Siyaram,” which became his spiritual identity.
The seer led a life defined by simplicity, devotion, and selfless service. Known for his daily Ramayana recitations, he was deeply devoted to Lord Rama and the Narmada River. Despite his spiritual prominence, he lived humbly, accepting food donations from villagers and using them to feed animals and birds, only taking a small portion for himself. He would also offer tea as prasad to visitors.
