After days of protest, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday decided to reschedule the counting date for the Mizoram Assembly polls to December 4. The counting was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, December 3.

This decision comes as a response to numerous representations received from various quarters, urging a change in the election result date.

The General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram, which witnessed a substantial voter turnout of over 80 per cent in the single-phased polling conducted on November 7, will now have its results declared a day later than initially planned.

The ECI, in an official notification, acknowledged the significance of December 3 for the people of Mizoram, given its status as a Sunday.

“The Commission, having considered these representations, has decided to revise the date of counting for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram from December 3 to December 4,” the poll body said.
