Civic body elections are being held across Maharashtra on Thursday — with 3.48 crore eligible voters deciding the fate of 15,931 candidates. Hundreds queued up at various locations as voting began at 7:30 am for 29 municipal corporations. Electors are required to carry identity documents and show up at the right polling booth before they can exercise their franchise.

How to search for polling booth details using EPIC number?

Voters who are uncertain about their exact polling booth location can use the state election commission website to search for details. Here are the steps:

  • Log onto the official Maharashtra State Election Commission website
  • Click on voter search to be redirected to the dedicated voter list website. You can also click here for a direct link.
  • Click on the search name in voter list option.
  • Select EPIC Number Wise (or Name Wise).
  • Select the relevant local body and district. You have to choose among municipal corporation, municipality, nagar panchayat, zilla panchayat and more.
  • Enter EPIC number (or your full name if you selected ‘name wise’ earlier) and click on search.
  • Check and save details once your records — including polling booth name, address, and voter slip details — appear on screen.

All eligible individuals whose names appear in the voter roll can download their Voter Information Slips via the official EC website. The document is issued by the Election Commission of India, and helps voters locate their polling station. The slip also informs voters about the polling date and time. The slips contain electoral roll and polling booth details. It is however, pertinent to note that VIS cannot be used as a standalone identification document for voting.

‘Voters must establish identity at polling station’

Mumbai Municipal Commissioner and district election officer Bhushan Gagrani said on Tuesday that voters must establish their identity at the polling station by presenting a photo identity card.

Those without a voter ID may submit any one of the 12 notified documents, which include the passport, Aadhaar card, driving licence, PAN card, government-issued photo identity cards and bank or post office passbooks with photographs. Electors can also show the disability certificates with photos, MGNREGA job cards, pension-related photo documents, official identity cards issued to MPs and MLAs, freedom fighter identity cards, or photo health insurance cards issued by the Union Labour Ministry.
