Music’s making life better for this Rajasthan district, and how! Not only has it overjoyed the human owners, even the cows are ‘rocking’. This cattle shelter in Rajasthan’s Sikar district installed a music system for its cattle and then makes them listen to Bhajans twice a day. The reason behind the step however, is not to preach to the cattle, but according to the authorities, “to increase their productivity”. The decision was taken by the president of the Gopal Gaushala Samiti, Daulat Ram Goyal who apparently read about the pros of listening to Bhajans and decided to walk an extra mile for the cattle shelter. The Gaushala has more than 500 cattle and according to Goyal has significantly increased the productivity of the cows. “I once read that listening to bhajans can bring about hormonal changes in cows, and increase their milk-generating abilities. We installed our music system way back in June, and guess what! The cows have been producing more milk in the last six months,” said Goyal.
According to a report in HT, Goyal has claimed that six amplifiers have been installed in the cattle shelter so that not even one cow misses any of the Bhajans. Cattle’s diet other than including good fodder includes music for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening.

And what are these powerful Bhajans? From devotional songs by Meera Bai to phrases from Ramcharitramanasm, the speakers play everything that the preident believes will help them produce more milk than they already do. Goyal also claims that although it has only been a few months since the speakers were installed, the productivity of the cow has already increased and where earlier the cows were producing 130 litres of milk every day are now producing 170 litres.
The president has done some serious future planning and is looking to create a fixed deposit of Rs 2 crore to expand further. “We have already created two FDs of Rs 50 lakh each. We should be able to collect the complete amount by March,” said Goyal.
