The BJP won the Delhi MCD elections today with over two-thirds majority and the party is set to rule EDMC, NDMC, and SDMC. Following the victory, BJP President Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi thanked people of Delhi for reposing. Shah said that the results have shown that voters have faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Meanwhile, taking ‘responsibility for the defeat’, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken offered to resign from his post. On the other hand, Aam Aadmi Party has refused to accept the loss as many top leaders have blamed EVMs for the results. However, party chief Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter to later congratulate the BJP on its victory in the municipal polls. He said that he looks forward to working with all three corporations for the betterment of Delhi.

7.25 pm: Dilip Pandey resigns from the post of AAP Delhi Convenor following.
6.39 pm: PTI quoting sources reports that a cabinet re-shuffle may be on card in Aam Admi Party. AAP sources said senior minister Satyendar Jain may be relieved of the charge of the transport department, which was given to him after Labour Minister Gopal Rai gave it up.
6.37 pm: Six independents making their presence felt in a huge way. Independent candidates, Poonam from Nangal Thakran and Archana from Holambi Khurd displayed woman power all on their own from North Delhi.
6.30 pm: Contrary to AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s stand, party MP Bhagwant Mann said there was no use in finding fault with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and the party should introspect on the reasons behind its defeat in Punjab.
6.09 pm: Senior Congress leader Varyam Kaur, who was the leader of the Opposition in the EDMC House, lost to her BJP rival by a huge margin of 9,115 votes.
5.58 pm: The lowest poll margin was in east Delhi’s Bhajanpura ward, where BJP’s Gurjeet Kaur defeated Congress’s Rekha Rani by a mere 58 votes.
5.45 pm: News agency PTI reports that a BJP candidate in a south Delhi ward trounced his AAP rival by a whopping 9,866 votes, the highest winning margin in municipal corporation elections, the results for which were declared today.
5.30 pm: Expert Speak: Kumar Rajesh, Fellow at Delhi University’s Developing Countries Research Centre (DCRC), described AAP’s slide as “steep” but predictable. “While they entered Delhi’s political scene with a bang the slide for AAP has been steep,” he said.
5.10 pm: Expert Speak: The director of the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), Sanjay Kumar, believed that AAP’s defeat would “reduce its chances of survival” as a political party. “If you see AAP’s report card in terms of state governance, the score isn’t really bad. But the Modi wave helped the BJP garner more votes and register a historic win,” he told PTI.

4.17 pm: Ajay Maken has now formally resigned as Delhi Congress chief, earlier, speaking to media, he had said that Congress had fought the election on positive issues.
