Day after Congress released its manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing an election rally in Saharanpur on Saturday, said that the grand old party’s election manifesto reflects a similar ideology as that of the Muslim League during the freedom movement.
PM Modi said that the Congress, which existed during the freedom movement, has ceased to exist for decades, lacking policies for the nation’s interest or vision for its development.
Critiquing the Congress’ manifesto, Modi claimed it showed the party’s disconnection from the hopes and aspirations of present-day India.
“A number of great personalities were associated with the Congress. The name of Mahatma Gandhi was associated with the Congress. The Congress, which is left today, neither has policies in the interest of the nation nor vision for the nation’s development,” Prime Minister Modi said.
He also criticized the Samajwadi Party, a member of the INDIA bloc and an election partner of the Congress in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the alleged instability within the alliance.
Modi did not name Rahul Gandhi or Akhilesh Yadav but alluded to them, referencing their previous collaboration and suggesting a lack of success. He mocked their renewed partnership, likening it to a failed movie sequel.
Prime Minister Modi said the “INDI alliance has become another name for instability and uncertainty”. “That’s why today the country is not taking seriously even a single thing said by them,” he added.
The Congress and the Samajwadi Party had previously contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections together.
The first phase of the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh is scheduled for April 19, covering eight parliamentary constituencies, including Saharanpur. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
