Chhattisgarh Election 2023 Latest News: Chhattisgarh, one of the states going to polls this year, faces an uphill task of security concern. Considering the naxal menace in the state, the Election Commission is paying special attention in this regard. To hold safe and fair elections, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has reportedly decided to deploy as many police and army commandos in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh before the 2023 assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

As per the media reports, the CRPF will be recruiting locals, with a special focus on women, for highly sensitive areas. The recruited “Mahila commandos” will be provided training before deployment in districts like Sukma, Bastar, Dantewada, and Bijapur. Inspector General of Police in Bastar Division, Sunderraj P, spke with ABP News and said that these women commandos will play an important role in conducting polling in the region safely, and since they are locals, it will have a huge impact.

Traditionally, Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh have been taking place in multiple phases because of the uncertainties in the naxal-sensitive districts. In previous Assembly elections in 2018, there were six attacks launched by Naxal that resulted in 13 kills, including one cameraperson of Doordarshan. The Naxal’s attacks have reduced, but there is no complete elimination of the problem. Every year, India reports around 300 deaths caused by Left-wing extremists, according to an Indian Express report.

As per reports, women commandos deployed in Dantewada and Sukma are referred to as Danteshwari Fighters and Durga Fighters, respectively. Every day, a large number of women are taking part in anti-Naxal operations along with commando soldiers. In Bastar division, where the first phase of elections will be held, around 50 thousand CRPF, ITBP, and other central security forces personnel are being deployed who have gotten their special training in Hyderabad.
