The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Wednesday that it would observe a ‘Samuhik Upwas’ (community fasting) to protest the arrest of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal at Jantar Mantar on April 7.
“All AAP ministers, MLAs, MPs and party leaders will observe a ‘Samuhik Upwas’ at Jantar Mantar on April 7 to protest against the arrest of CM Arvind Kejriwal,” Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai said while addressing a press conference in the national capital, as ANI reported.

Meanwhile, Kejriwal, who was sent to judicial custody till April 15 in Tihar Jail in connection with the excise policy scam, has allegedly lost 4.5 kg of weight since his arrest, the party claimed. “Arvind Kejriwal suffers from severe diabetes. Despite health problems, he used to work 24 hours a day to serve the country. Since his arrest, Arvind Kejriwal has lost 4.5 kg of weight. This is very worrying,” AAP leader Atishi said in a post on ‘X’.
On the other hand, Rai also urged people to participate in the ‘Samuhik Upwas’, stating, “We also appeal to people that all those who are against the arrest of CM Arvind Kejriwal and want to save democracy and love this country can also do ‘Samuhik Upwas’ at their homes, villages, and blocks.”

Regarding the Supreme Court’s judgment granting bail to AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Rai mentioned, “With the bail of Singh, it is clear that the allegations made against the leaders of the AAP are baseless.”
He continued, “One thing has become clear since yesterday that the allegations were made without any evidence. Without any basis, our leaders were arrested. Yesterday, all this truth came to light in the Supreme Court. This is the loss of the BJP’s conspiracy and dictatorship.”

Taking a direct hit at the BJP-led central government, the AAP leader said, “For the last two years, they (the BJP) have been shouting that bail has not been granted because we’re dishonest. And now that the bail has been granted, they are claiming that the ED is unbiased. Don’t you feel ashamed?”
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted bail to AAP leader Sanjay Singh in a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s excise policy irregularities. The decision followed the Enforcement Directorate’s decision not to oppose Singh’s bail plea.
Following Singh’s bail approval, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) hailed the court’s ruling as a “victory of truth and justice.” Conversely, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) countered, arguing that the bail order invalidated AAP’s claims of “political vendetta” by central agencies.
ED informed the Supreme Court that it had no objection to Singh’s bail. This response came after the court inquired whether further custody of AAP leader Sanjay Singh was necessary in the excise policy case.
Sanjay Singh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on October 4, 2023, in connection with the case. The case stemmed from a report submitted by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022, highlighting alleged procedural lapses in the policy formulation.
