A 26-year-old UPSC aspirant was electrocuted after he touched an iron gate that had electricity running through it following heavy rains near central Delhi’s Patel Nagar metro station.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon, when the student, Nilesh Rai, an engineer and a native of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, had stepped out of his PG accommodation to buy something, PTI reported.
Around 2.43 pm, Ranjit Nagar Police Station received information that a person was stuck to an iron gate after being electrocuted. The road in the area was waterlogged which contributed to the electrocution.
He was immediately transported to RML Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A picture purportedly showing Nilesh Rai’s upper body stuck to the gate with his feet in water and wires dangling from an electric pole was doing the rounds on social media, PTI reported.
An FIR has been registered under sections 106(1) (death due to negligence) and 285 (Danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) The forensic team has visited the crime scene to determine how the gate became electrified, and further investigations are underway,
Atul Dua, the owner of Nilesh Rai’s PG, said he had been living in the PG for the last three years and was preparing for the civil services.
