Google today announced in Chandigarh the launch of an easy to use new product, ‘Google My Business’ designed to work across both desktop and mobile devices to help small medium businesses to create and update their business info on Google Search, Maps and Google+ from one place for free in both Hindi and English to help small medium businesses succeed online.
Suryanarayana Kodukulla, Head of SMB sales, Google India said here that a majority of small medium businesses in India have ignored the potential of Internet to grow and expand their horizons. The challenge has been lack of awareness on the benefits of Internet and second has been the know-how required to succeed online.
Speaking about Google’s plans to overcome this challenge, Suryanarayana Kodukulla said, “Small businesses have been key to Google’s success from the very beginning. Globally over two million businesses use Google’s advertising platform to find potential buyers on Internet. We have set a very ambitious plan of bringing down the barriers that inhibits SMBs in India from embracing the Internet.”
Launching the first of many initiatives with CII, Google India also announced the launch of Google SME Heroes initiative in Chandigarh to showcase and celebrate local small medium businesses that have embraced the Internet to grow their business. The five finalists from Chandigarh, shortlisted by Google and CII were chosen on the basis of business model, impact of Internet on the business include Abhiraj Malhotra CEO, Schoolpad.in, an online All-In-One school management software.
The other finalist is Veena Singla, who started Zesty Bites in 2004 and today the bakery has become a highly celebrated and recognized brand in the city. Vipin Kapoor and Darpan Kapoor of Kapkids which is the kids focussed e-commerce arm of the leading retail store Kapson. K.S. Bhatia, Owner, Pumpkart has also been shortlisted as a finalist. Pumpkart is a one-stop destination for all categories of pumps for agricultural, residential or commercial purposes. Vaibhav Sharma, Owner, Precision Machines is the fifth finalist.
