Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Salone Sehgal, founding general partner, Lumikai, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
The all-consuming way of life often means the child in all of us goes ignored. I love ways to reconnect with my inner child and nurture my imagination and creativity. I read anywhere between 40-50 books a year. From nonfiction to exploring alternative universes or reading fantasy fiction – curiosity drives my reading choices. Aside from that, I enjoy exploring wholesome interactive experiences like soulful games. Currently, enjoying Journey by That Game Company.
How do you spend your weekends?
Weekends are my time for family and relaxation. During the week, my schedule gets crowded with meetings and calls, so I purposely set aside Saturdays and Sundays for some much-needed downtime. I prefer staying away from devices during this time. It helps me unwind and decompress. e. I cherish spending quality moments with my family, catching up on conversations, and enjoying activities together.. These weekends offer a refreshing break, allowing me to recharge, rejuvenate, and strike a balance between work and personal life. It’s a simple way for me to prioritise family bonding and self-care, ensuring I start the upcoming week feeling refreshed and energised.
What are your favourite gadgets?
My favourite gadget is my Quiet noise-cancelling earbuds. I take them everywhere I go because they’re super handy. In a world that’s always bustling with noise and commotion, these earbuds give me a break by blocking out all the unwanted sounds. Whether I’m on a busy street or just want some quiet time at home, they help create moments of peace and calm. These earbuds have become my go-to gadget, making my daily life a bit more peaceful and helping me focus no matter where I am. They give me a chance to unwind amidst the constant chaos of the world around me.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
Over the last two decades, I have had the good fortune to be an investment banker, an entrepreneur, and now a venture capitalist (VC). I have a passion for supporting new-age businesses and helping innovative ideas thrive. This trait has been a strong driver across all my career choices and shifts. My current career of launching a VC fund is a culmination of 18+ years of experience giving me the much-needed toolkit to be an investor. I was always keen to build a fund that I always wanted as an investor and at Lumikai, we always put the founder first.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
The Andaman Islands hold a special place in my heart when it comes to my favourite vacation spots. It’s a magical destination blessed with breathtaking beaches, calm and clear waters, and an astonishing variety of nature’s wonders. The sheer beauty of the Andamans is awe-inspiring. What makes the Andamans so remarkable are its stunning beaches. The shores boast a mesmerizing charm with powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters. The tranquillity of these beaches is unparalleled, offering a serene escape from the hustle of everyday life.
Moreover, the natural diversity found in the Andamans is truly incredible. The islands are home to lush greenery, dense forests, and an abundance of wildlife. The islands provide a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, making it an ideal vacation spot for me. Whether it’s lounging on the picturesque beaches or immersing myself in nature, every moment spent in the Andamans feels like stepping into a paradise that’s both serene and captivating.
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching?
I would highly recommend checking out “Air,” it’s a biographical sports drama film that delves into the story behind the scenes of Nike and Michael Jordan’s career and how the sensational partnership between the two came to life. It’s an inspiring watch, showcasing the determination and hard work that led to a groundbreaking collaboration, changing both the course of Nike’s fortunes and the world of sports branding.
