Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs some breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Rahul Vats, founder, Amala Life, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
I’m passionate about hybrid training for Ironman and marathon prep, blending strength and endurance workouts. It’s not just about physical fitness—I embrace the discomfort that comes with pushing my limits, as it strengthens my mental health and resilience. Working out helps me stay focused and balanced, both mentally and physically.
How do you spend your weekends?
My weekends are usually dedicated to long training sessions, especially outdoor runs and cycling to prepare for my endurance events. I also use this time to unwind by reading, exploring new research in health and wellness, or engaging in creative activities like photography. It’s a mix of pushing myself physically and recharging mentally.
What are your favourite gadgets?
My daily essentials include the Garmin Enduro 3 and the Ultrahuman Ring, which help me track my training and recovery in detail. I also still use my 10-year-old MacBook, on which I wrote my first book and built my startup—it’s a sentimental piece of tech that has been with me through key milestones.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
If I had the chance to choose another career, I would love to be a mountain climber, trekker, or professional athlete. The idea of constantly challenging myself physically, exploring the outdoors, and pushing my limits in extreme environments is something that excites me.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
Till date, my favourite vacation spot is a small village called Fagu in Himachal Pradesh. It holds a special place in my heart as my aunt’s house is there, and it’s located near a protected wildlife sanctuary. The serene environment, surrounded by nature and wildlife, makes it a perfect getaway for relaxation and reflection.
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching?
For a TV show, I highly recommend Foundation on Apple TV—it’s an epic blend of science fiction and deep philosophical themes. In terms of movies, Interstellar is my top pick for its mind-bending exploration of space, time, and human resilience. As for an ad campaign, the “IKEA – The Wonderful Everyday” campaign stands out. It emphasises sustainability by promoting eco-friendly home products and lifestyle changes, reminding us how small, everyday choices can positively impact the environment.
