The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) announced on Wednesday that the newly developed T1 terminal at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport will become operational starting August 17. This development comes after operations at the old T1 terminal were suspended in late June due to a roof collapse incident.
Part of the airport’s phase 3A expansion project
The new T1 terminal, which was inaugurated in March as part of the airport’s phase 3A expansion project, will initially handle a significant portion of domestic flights operated by IndiGo and SpiceJet. According to DIAL, SpiceJet will shift 13 of its flights to the new terminal from August 17. Following this, IndiGo will move 34 of its flights from terminals T2 and T3 to T1, starting from September 2.
Delhi Airport, one of the busiest airports in India, currently has three terminals – T1, T2, and T3. The reopening of the new T1 terminal is expected to streamline passenger movement and ease congestion at the airport, particularly for domestic travelers.
DIAL’s efforts to modernize and expand the airport infrastructure underscore its commitment to enhancing passenger experience and accommodating the growing air traffic in the national capital.
