Bajaj Auto has launched an affordable electric scooter, the Chetak C25, targeting the younger demographic with a price of Rs 91,399. Bookings have officially started, and the company is well-prepared to handle the expected demand, according to Rishabh Bajaj, General Manager of EV Two and Three Wheelers at Bajaj Auto. He said that the pricing aligns with the target segment they aim to attract, striking a balance between affordability and quality without descending into overly cheap territory. Bajaj added that the scooter is correctly priced based on the features it offers.
According to Bajaj, this product maintained its reliability but came with a youthful appeal. He described it as a passion project for him and his team in the EV division and expressed hope that it would help the company achieve the number one position in the market. Baja Auto currently ranks second, behind TVS Motors, in the electric scooter market.
The Strategy
The Chetak electric scooter is presently available in two series (35 and 30) and four variants (3001, 3503, 3502, and 3501), with prices ranging from Rs 99,990 to Rs 1.27 lakh. Since its launch six years ago, the company has sold 600,000 electric scooters, including 280,000 units in 2025. Notably, around 40% of Chetak buyers are under 35-years-old.
Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director of Bajaj Auto, stated that Chetak will serve as an umbrella brand, with various products to be launched under this name to cater to different use cases. They were leveraging the Chetak brand, which makes sense since it has a strong equity and is difficult to replicate. “Everyone fondly remembers the Chetak, which is a significant advantage,” Sharma said. Over the next 12 to 18 months, he anticipates the introduction of different scooter formats under the Chetak brand.
He expects electric scooters to grow faster than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Families are increasingly opting for multiple two-wheelers, including both a motorcycle and a scooter, which different family members use for various purposes. The Chetak C25 is specifically targeting this segment, Sharma said.
Performance & Practicality
Weighing 22 kg less, the C25 is a compact electric scooter powered by a 2.5 kWh battery, offering a range of 113 km per charge and a top speed of 55 km/h. It boasts a 25-litre boot and can achieve 80% charge in just 2.25 hours. Positioned as an ideal urban vehicle, it is designed for easy manoeuvrability in dense traffic and tight city spaces. In a market filled with plastic and fibre scooters, the metal-bodied Chetak has garnered strong acceptance from customers who value its robust construction and longevity.
