Yapp Zoom Automotive Systems Private Ltd, a joint venture between Yangzhou-based Yapp Automotive Parts Company Ltd and Mumbai-based Zoom Developers Private Ltd, has set up a plastic fuel tank facility at Ford?s new suppliers park near Chennai.

The plant?s production capacity is about 250,000 tanks a year. The tanks will have a capacity of 30-100 litre and will be used in cars and SUVs.

Yapp automotive parts president Sun Yan said the plant has come up in record time. Plastic fuel tanks for automotive vehicles is a worldwide phenomenon and is now being adopted by the Indian automotive sector as well. He hoped the initiative will gain momentum and significantly benefit the Indian automotive sector.

Chairman of the company Deng Hua said that in the 24 months since the joint venture, much progress has been made. He hoped that the joint venture will move forward with equal speed in implementing other strategic decisions, including the setting up of more plants in strategic locations in India to supply to the original equipment manufacturers on JIT basis.

?After China, India is another example of automotive production and consumption. We hope that this new plant will prove an additional advantage for Indian automotive manufacturers in their quest for global markets,? he said.

Ford India president & MD Michael Boneham said that Ford China had been an active partner of Yapp Automotive Parts in catering to the needs of the local economy. This partnership has grown to include servicing of other countries and regions as well, he added.

Zoom developers chairman Vijay Choudhary was highly appreciative of the support of Ford India in establishing this plant at Chennai and hoped that other dedicated plants would come up to address the requirements of auto makers like Volkswagen, Mahindra & Mahindra, among others.
