Meet the new wireless member of the family. Computer hard disk maker Seagate Technology has introduced its Free Agent GoFlex Home, an ideal network storage system for home users. Basically, the GoFlex Home network storage system connects to your Wi-Fi router, allowing you to store and access files wirelessly and back up multiple computers in the home.

The network storage system includes software to back up automatically and continuously all the files and folders on up to three PC and Mac computers in the home. By storing files in a central location on your network, you can use one drive for all your storage and backup needs. When connected to your home Wi-Fi router, the GoFlex Home network storage system enables you to store and access files wirelessly from any PC or Mac computer in the home.

The GoFlex Home network storage system also allows you to stream media to game consoles and the GoFlex TV HD media player. For a user this means that one can store all his photos, videos and music on the GoFlex Home network storage system and enjoy media and favourite memories from any room in the house. In addition, you can share a USB printer with every computer in the home simply by connecting to the USB port on the GoFlex Home network storage system, or you can plug a USB drive into the port to increase storage capacity. The built-in drive may also be upgraded simply by removing the drive from the base and replacing with a higher capacity GoFlex Desk drive.

With this device, one can share and access documents from any computer from the home network, as well as wirelessly stream movies, photos and music to the networked computers, media players and game consoles. An interesting app (Seagate Share) lets you view files remotely using any computers with a web browser and Internet connection.

GoFlex Home allows a user to store 3 TB of data, which is more than sufficient for home usage. It is basically the desktop version of the GoFlex Pro. It comes with a detachable bottom tray or docking station in which it should be plugged in. The front part of the docking station consists of two LEDs that displays its status. The rear part has a power button along with a LAN and USB port. USB port can be used to connect external drives.

The GoFlex Home offers two easy ways to expand your home network?s storage capacity?no tools required. Remove the included drive from the base and replace it with a higher capacity GoFlex Desk drive. Another option is to plug any USB drive into the integrated USB port for more storage capacity.

Seagate provides the flexibility in changing the dock. If you want to go for USB 3.0, then you can change it but you will have to pay extra for it. This device is black in colour, glossy and is slightly heavy. As a GoFlex Home user, you can experience your media remotely by downloading the free GoFlex Access app for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. All you need is a Wi-Fi or 3G/4G connection. With this, you can stream your movies and music, including cover art, while on-the-go, or view your photos and documents on your mobile device. One can easily download the GoFlex Access app for free from the App Store or Android market.

With a simple guided set-up process and just two cable connections, the GoFlex Home network storage system is installed in just minutes, quickly allowing you to begin protecting your files, enjoying your media and accessing your content, wherever you are.
