NTPC is aiming to add capacity at 13% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in order to generate 75,000 mw by March 2017 and reduce its carbon footprint by increasing the share of renewable and nuclear power in its energy mix and improving energy efficiency of coal-fired plants. The firm has projects worth 17,340 mw under implementation and has initiated tendering for execution of another 7,092 mw capacity. Projects worth 27,000 mw are under preliminary stages, NTPC has said.

?With an installed capacity of 32,194 mw, the company is well on course to become a 75,000-mw company by the end of the 12th Plan,? NTPC chairman Arup Roy Choudhury said while addressing the company’s 34th annual general meeting here. ?NTPC is on a high growth curve to remain the sector-leader and is aiming at capacity addition at 13% CAGR, with a big pipeline of projects,? Choudhury said.

The company will focus on developing clean energy sources like nuclear and renewable and improving energy efficiency of its coal-fired plans as part of its low-carbon growth strategy. ?In line with national energy planning, we have finalised our corporate plan for 2032 to position NTPC as the world?s largest and best power producer and a leader in green power. By 2032, the company plans to have a capacity of 128 gw,? Choudhury said.
