A woman was killed and three others were injured after they were injured by a police jeep in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, a PTI report said today. The driver of the jeep ran over them in trying to save a cow, the agency quoted police as saying.
The incident occurred when 60-year old Usha Devi and three others were walking on the road. The driver of the jeep had apparently lost control of the vehicle while trying to save a cow. While Usha Devi was killed on the spot, three others, including her two granddaughters, aged two and four have been admitted to a hospital, the police was quoted as saying by the agency. Police have registered a case against the driver.
In another incident, a police team, which had gone to Sherpur village in Muzaffarnagar district, were attacked by the locals following an information regarding cow slaughter, an Indian Express report said. The incident occurred while the police were returning, after failing to get any proof on cow slaughter.
