Karnataka Administrative Services officer Bheema Naik was arrested today, days after his driver committed suicide. In his letter, the driver had claimed that the officer had laundered states mining giant and ex-BJP leader Janardhana Reddy’s black money. In his suicide letter, the driver had claimed claimed that Reddy had converted Rs100 cr black money into white. He had also said that he mining baron had also paid nearly 20 percent commission to the senior government officer.
Days after the mining baron had spent close to Rs 500 crore for his daughter’s wedding, along with him, event managers who were hired for the ceremony, are also under income tax department’s radar, a report in ‘The Times Of India’ had said. A notice was also sent to Reddy, in which the department had asked for details of the expenses during the marriage. The I-T department had also asked for the source of income for Reddy’s hefty attire during the wedding.
Tax officials, as per reports, also inspected event managers at few locations in Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Reddy’s daughter’s five-day wedding even had attracted attentions for its display of wealth,which saw LCD-screen invitation cards, large wedding venue, and a list of at least 50,000 guests. The marriage was solemnised at a time when NDA Government banned use of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, declaring them invalid tenders. Janardhana Reddy was held in 2012 in illegal mining cases. After his release on bail in 2015, he was busy planning his daughter’s marriage that took place at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru last month.
